Yia Yia's Song with Freedomland Rent Control, 2004. New York City-based multi-reedman Daniel Carter brought his alto sax to Seattle to record with bassist Reuben Radding shortly after 911 occurred. And due to airline baggage restrictions, Carter decided to leave his arsenal of horns behind. Alternatively, the artists permeate a sequence of gracefully enacted performances, brimming with subtle inflections and mood-altering thematic forays. Reuben Radding, a bassist who met Carter in his home city of New York a decade ago, urged him to come to Seattle for a duo recording. And so it happened. Unfortunately 911 happened first, which meant Carter had to leave all his instruments except the alto saxophone at home. Just as well within the compelled focus on one instrument, he delves deep and brings out a rich variety of tone and texture. Radding has the insight to complement the upper midrange, traveling above and beyond the usual bass zone. Luminescence opens with a soft held overtone, bass and saxophone gradually resolving as they. 1 You And I Are Disappearing 2 Ancestral VoyageMystery Succeed 3 Refracted Light And Grace 4 Blessing The Ride 5 Vignettes 6 Qualcosa Verso Azzurro 7 Occurrences, Places, Entities And The Sea.
