Notes

LINER NOTES:
Ferrante of the internationally famous piano-duo of Ferrante and Teicher is playing both pianos on this recording. In essence, he is F&F or, more explicitly, he is now Ferrante and His Twin Pianos. In addition to the two pianos, he has incorporated the use of modern electronic keyboards, permitting him to reproduce sounds of symphonic proportions and create some new tantalizingly spooky effects befitting the Phantom.

For his initial recording as F&F, he has chosen the score to the smash Broadway show, The Phantom Of The Opera. In keeping with the mood, he has also included beautiful themes from the operas Carmen, Madame Butterly, Aida, The Barber of Seville and Puccini's "Beloved Daddy." (Aria from Gianna Schicchi).

Ferrante's challenging arrangements showcase his dazzling technique. The lightning speed of double thirds... the interplay of keyboards from left to right.. the sparkling arpeggios... the cascading chromatic scales... the distrinctive harmonic progressions as well as the lush backgrounds of orchestral quality required 82 hours of studio time to record and edit.

How did Ferrante do it? Only the Phantom knows!

The novel is partly inspired by historical events at the Paris Opera during the nineteenth century and an apocryphal tale concerning the use of a former ballet pupil's skeleton in Carl Maria von Weber's 1841 production of Der Freischütz. Begins when an opera ghost terrorizes the cast and crew of the French Opera House while tutoring a chorus girl. He finally drives the lead soprano crazy so she and her friend leave. The girl is able to sing lead one night but the soprano doesn't want her show stolen so she comes back. The ghost demands they keep giving his protégé lead roles. Meanwhile, His pupil falls in love with the Vicomte de Chagny, but the Phantom is in love with Christine, his student.
