Intellectuals Are the Shoeshine Boys of the Ruling Elite is the debut album of Killdozer, released in 1984 through Bone-Air Records. All tracks are written by Killdozer, except Run Through the Jungle by John Fogerty. Michael Gerald vocals, bass guitar. Bill Hobson guitar. Dan Hobson drums. Production and additional personnel. Steve Marker production. Mike Tincher design. Butch Vig production. Bob Wasserman photography. Album 1984 8 Songs. More by Killdozer. The Last Waltz. Twelve Point Buck. God Hears Pleas of the Innocent. Michael Gerald's Party Machine - Single. Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Burl - EP. The Captain Beefheart-by-way-of-the Birthday Party roots of the band were perfectly obvious, but in light of where the trio went, the aesthetic - if that's the right word - got established early on, then was perfected. Gerald is just nuts his shuffling basslines rumble along but it's his way around complaining about assholes on Pile Driver, to name but one instance, that makes him a perfect anti-star. Killdozer are an American band that formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1983, with members Bill Hobson, Dan Hobson and Michael Gerald. They took their name from the 1974 TV movie directed by Jerry London, itself based on a Theodore Sturgeon short story. They released their first album, Intellectuals are the Shoeshine Boys of the Ruling Elite, in the same year. The band split in 1990 but reformed in 1993, losing Bill Hobson and gaining Paul Zagoras, and continued until they split up in 1996. The band released 9 albums, including a post-breakup live CD, The Last Waltz, released in 1997. K read more. Unfortunately, the station stopped broadcasting. Gotta say, I prefer this "shit-kicking Birthday Party ripoff" Killdozer to the later "sludgy joke tracks and cock-rock covers" Killdozer. I've only really listened to "Intellectuals," which has a terrible mix but better songs than "Snakeboy," and they were kids at the time anyway. They may take a little while to get used to.
